Bionic Granny and the easter bunny

This easter weeckend we went to stay at my bionic granny's house. She is bionic because she has just had a total hip replacement operation. She is feeling a lot better now. If I mess around Granny shakes her walking stick at me!!

We have spent a lot of time playing with our cousins Lily (5) and Poppy (3). I love Lily and Poppy, I was really excited to see them. We have been on some walks across the moors together and nearly got stuck in a deep, squelchy peat bog (the mud was orange)! On easter day we had an easter egg hunt in Lily and Poppy's allotment and we went to see the lightning tree wich has split in half but is still alive! I have had a great time I don't want to go home. I will miss everyone here. :(

A wonderful view

We went to Nibley Knoll today with our friends Milly, Tom and Mortimer (I've known Milly and Mortimer since I was a baby!). In the woods we saw lots of big trees that had fallen down onto the path in the winter storms. I climbed over the massive tree trunks, and fell off one! We explored the Iron Age Hill Fort and found lots of fossil shells in the limestone. We had a picnic at the foot of the tower (Tyndale monument) and climbed up the spiral staircase to the top - there were 121 steps. The view was amazing - you could see for miles - and we could see both of the Severn bridges. It was a hot, sunny day and the sky was clear blue. We saw two buzzards circling overhead. On the way back we played on a tyre swing hanging from a tree in the woods. It's been another amazing day.

A muddy day at Lower Woods

Today we went to Lower Woods with our friends Hazel and Arthur. We had a picnic in the sunshine sitting on a pile of logs. There are loads of beautiful spring flowers in the woods: primroses, violets, bluebells, wood anemones, cowslips, celandines, cuckoo flower, and early purple orchids. We had a brilliant time playing in the mud and in the stream. We found some fossils in the stream: amonites and devil's toe-nails. We also found a large piece of cotham marble which is a type of stone found in the woods. I got stuck in the mud and the mud went over the top of my wellie! I had to pull it out and when I put my foot back inside it, it was all wet and squidgy - yuck!! When we were playing in the stream, my cap fell in the water and my wellie boot (the muddy one) filled up with water! We were all very muddy and wet by the time we finished our walk, but we were all still laughing.

Wrong way little lamb!

Today has been another lovely sunny day. Grandma and Grandpa came for lunch, and then we all went for a walk at Hawkesbury. We walked to St Mary's church and looked at the stained glass window to St Wulfston. We saw lots of vegetables in the stained glass window - Grandma told us that St Wulfston is supposedly the patron saint of vegetarians. After we had been in the church we clambered up Hawkesbury Knoll, there were amazing views from the top over to Wickwar. Hannah fell over in the nettles and had nettle stings all over her hand! There were lots of sheep and lambs on the Knoll; one of the lambs had been separated from its mother by a fence, so Grandpa lifted the lamb over the fence to reunite it with its mum.

Over the weekend I played out lots with Alfie on our bikes and scooters. We went up to the playing fields to play football and have lots of fun running around.

Satellites and a surprise visit

Last night Dad and I went outside to watch the International Space Station pass overhead, but we saw 3 satellites!!!! I was amazed at how fast the ISS went.

Me and Mum altered the climbing frame so we can do flips without banging our heads!! I did all the spannering.

We had surprise visitors for lunch - Grandpa and Grandma - very tasty they were, too!!

In the afternoon we all made cakes with Mum. Mine were lemon flavour - yum!! After the cakes had cooled we decorated them with sprinkles and icing and mini eggs - DELICIOUS!!! What do you think?

A day at Out of School Club

I went to Out of School Club today. We built a teepee outside without any instructions and we were allowed to eat our lunch in it. I had smoked salmon sandwiches for lunch - yum! I played a football game on the club's PS2 with a friend - we drew nil-nil. We had a hot-cross bun and crackers for our afternoon snack. I enjoyed playing with the toy cars, and watching a DVD. It's lots of fun at Out of School Club!

A day at Grandma and Grandpa's

Today I went to Bristol to visit my Grandma and Grandpa. I read 'Swallows and Amazons' to Grandma. They told me about the Monastery at Fountains Abbey which was inhabited by Cistercian monks from 1132 AD. The monks had a very advanced waterworks system. They made beer using spring water from the nearby hills. When they went to the toilet the wooden lavatory bench was right over the river so all the dirty water was washed away downstream. This meant that the river was very dirty, smelly and polluted but downstream it soon became fairly clean and then further down became clean again. The plants and bacteria in the river cleaned the dirty water this is rather like what happens in a modern sewage works.
